Day Zero

The blue sea and bright sun smiled at us as we arrived in Heraklion. It's not the usual summer heat that jumps out at you when you think of Greece, but we were still travelling relatively early in the year.

The hospitality: indescribable ... and successful in every respect. It started with the friendly bus driver Jiorgo, who greeted us at the airport and takes us through the winding "Autonbahn" (yes, that's what they call normal country roads here) to Chania. The youngsters were picked up by their unusually punctual Greek parents and taken home. What did they experience on the first evening? Remains a mystery. In any case, the first impression of the children gained and reported back the following day is fantastic. All three national groups (Slovenia, Greece and Germany) started with the first activity in the beautiful harbour town of Chania. In the form of a scavenger hunt, typical Chania sights such as churches, old Turkish baths and the Venetian influence on the infrastructure and architecture were explored.

We were looking forward to the first day of school, when we could finally explore the school not only from the outside but also from the inside. See you tomorrow!

Tag Zero

Das blaue Meer und die strahlende Sonne lachen uns bei Ankunft in Heraklion an. Es ist nicht die übliche Sommerhitze, die einem entgegenspringt, wenn man an Griechenland denkt, aber wir sind ja noch relativ früh im Jahr unterwegs.

Die Gastfreundschaft: unbeschreiblich … und in allen Belangen gelungen. Es fängt an mit dem netten Busfahrer Jiorgo, der uns am Fluhafen empfängt und uns durch die kurvenreiche „Autonbahn“ (ja, so nennt man normale Landstraßen hier) wohlauf nach Chania bringt. Die Jugendlichen werden von den unüblicherweise pünktlichen Griecheneltern abgeholt und nach Hause gebracht. Was sie am ersten Abend alles erleben? Bleibt ein Rätsel. Der erste gewonnene und zurückgemeldete Eindruck der Kinder am Tag danach ist jedenfalls fantastisch. Alle drei Landesgruppen (Slowenien, Griechenland und Deutschland) beginnen mit der ersten Akitivität in der schönen Hafenstadt Chania. In Form einer Schnitzeljagd werden Chania-typische Sehenswürdigkeiten wie Kirchen, alt-türkische Bäder und der venizianische Einfluss auf die Infrastruktur und Architektur erkundschaftet.

Wir freuen uns auf den ersten Schultag, wenn wir endlich die Schule nicht nur von außen sondern ebenso von innen erforschen können. Bis morgen!
