Our class trip to Hastings

28/10/2024

The class 7.4 and 7.8 went on our class trip to Hastings together. Four teachers came with us. Two English teachers and two other teachers. We stayed there for four days from Sunday, 9th September, to Thursday, 14th September. We stayed at our host families. The weather was good, and it wasn't raining that much. We bought something for lunch in town, but we ate breakfast and dinner at our host families. The Class trip was great! We enjoyed every moment of it.

At the host family we almost had the same food as in Germany, but it tasted a bit different. In the host families were a few rules but they weren’t so strict, so we came along with them. The beds were really comfortable, and we could sleep well. Overall all families were kind and respectful so we were kind and respectful to them and because of that we had much fun

On Sunday, we met with the other class (7.8) at 7.30 a.m. by the main entrance at our school. The bus was already there, and we quickly said goodbye to our families. Everyone brought their luggage to our bus driver. His name is Robin, and he drove the bus every day. He was so nice and kind to us. After that we got right into the bus and waved our families goodbye one last time. On the journey we all sang songs together. First both classes didn’t like each other but lots of students became friends in the end. Our first stop was in Belgium and some students went shopping food or went to Starbucks. Our second stop was in Dunkerque before we got onto the ferry, because there was a huge duty-free shop. On the ferry everyone had lunch, and a lot of students also brought things in the shop on the ferry. When we drove off the ferry, we only had to drive 2 more hours. When we arrived, it rained. So, we waited in the bus for the host families to pick us up. We also went to the beach for a short time, because Robin parked the bus by the sea. Although we were playing by the sea, no one went swimming, because it was too cold. But some shoes became wet.

On Monday, we met at the bus stop at about 8 am. We walked to the Hastings Pier and waited for our tour guide. She introduced herself and showed us many things like the underground skatepark which Hastings is famous for. On the tour we learned more about Hastings and smuggling. Then we had lunch in small groups of four or five. After that we went to the castle of William the Conqueror. We had an amazing view from there. Later we went to the smuggling caves where we learned more about smugglers in Hastings. It was explained in videos. At last, we went to Sainsbury’s supermarket where we bought some snacks and drinks for the next days.

On Tuesday morning, we went for a walk on the cliffs to the Seven Sisters. It was very windy, and it rained. When we saw Robin all of us were happy because we were finally back at the bus. Then we went to Brighton and there we made a treasure hunt. After the treasure hunt, we had lunch and went shopping in little groups. Some of us went to the Brighton Pier.

On Wednesday morning, our host family took again us to our meeting point. After we arrived, we went to Rye by bus. We took some beautiful pictures. We had a break, and we all went eating.  After the break we went back to the bus and Robin took us to Rye harbour. We walked an hour or two through the Nature Reserve. In the afternoon, people went swimming at Camber Sands beach and some didn’t. The teachers and the kids played ball games and volleyball. Overall, it was an amazing day!

At 8 am the trip back to Germany started. After a two-hour drive, we reached the ferry in Dover. The ferry crossing didn’t take long. Luckily the weather was good and the sea calm. When we arrived in Calais we got back on the bus. The journey from Calais to Kerpen took about five hours. In Belgium the bus needed to refuel so we had a short break and could get something to eat and drink. We arrived at the Europagymnasium at about 6.30 pm and that was the end of our journey.
